Michigan Model for Health

The Michigan Model for Health is a school-based curriculum developed for students ages 5-19. This program provides information and teaches skills in order to assist young people in making healthy behavior and lifestyle choices. The program curriculum covers a variety of topics, including alcohol consumption, HIV/AIDS, and nutrition.

This program is rooted in behavior change theory, namely an adapted Health Belief Model, which combines several behavior change theories. Overall, the program design and curriculum supports the idea that health education programs are more effective in changing behaviors when they incorporate a combination of knowledge, skill building, self-efficacy, and environmental support.

A detailed summary of this program and its evaluation is included in the Programs section of the Guide.
